Moshope Oyeyemi

Chapters of Grace – Pages of Purpose

"You lived like a sunrise – brief, beautiful & unforgettable."

His Eternal Light Lives On

Moshope Oyeyemi was born on February 18, 2000, in Queens, New York, a city known for its relentless energy and limitless dreams, much like the young man himself. From the moment he entered a room, Moshope Oyeyemi’s radiant smile lit up every corner of it. His laughter danced in the air, his presence brought warmth, and his joy was infectious. He was deeply loved, not only by his family and friends, but by anyone fortunate enough to know him, even briefly. Curious and boundlessly energetic, Moshope approached life as if it were a gift to unwrap each day. He met the world with wonder, always learning, always exploring, always lifting others with his heart full of light. He was not just joyful; he was joy in motion.

His thirst for excellence was matched only by the passion he poured into everything he did. From Elkridge Elementary through Howard High, his academic brilliance was unmistakable, earning numerous Maryland State achievement awards. He began his collegiate journey at Penn State before transferring to UMBC, where he found his calling, an inspired fusion of Information Technology and Finance. His intellect and drive led him to Morgan Stanley, where an internship turned into a full-time offer before graduation. His future was as bright as his spirit.

Moshope didn’t just live, he soared. With an imagination beyond his years and an eagerness to try new things, he discovered a surprising love for rugby in college. Though a newcomer to the sport, he played with the passion and heart of a veteran. A teammate once recalled: “He showed up late to a game, coach put him in, and he almost immediately scored. “That moment perfectly captured his fearless spirit, his natural brilliance, and his relentless pursuit of excellence.

At Morgan Stanley, his impact was immediate. His mind was sharp, his work ethic unstoppable. Quickly rising from Analyst to Associate, Moshope became more than just a colleague, he was a mentor, a visionary, and a friend. He often spoke of big dreams, not only for his career but for the people around him.

He carried others along in his rise.

To know Moshope was to know joy. He connected with people effortlessly, young and old, in church pews, at work, in the neighborhood. He made strangers feel seen, and friends feel deeply cherished. He could be playful and profound, humorous and reflective. Whether he was telling a nerdy joke, dancing through the kitchen with earbuds in, or offering a shoulder during hard times, he was always present, always intentional.

He found delight in life’s simple pleasures: the rhythm of good music, the serenity of museums, the art of painting, the beauty of golf courses, the thrill of travel. But perhaps nowhere was he more radiant than when cooking, earbuds in, tunes on, laughter bubbling over. Watching him in his cooking zone was witnessing joy incarnate.

Spiritually grounded, Moshope had deep and unwavering faith. Raised in a Christian home, he embraced Christ early in life and nurtured that relationship with sincerity and reverence. He prayed earnestly, for his friends, his family, his future. His prayers, written like sacred scrolls, adorned his workspace, quietly echoing his devotion.

Moshope wore his faith proudly not just on his wrist or wall, but in every word, every act, every intention. He lived truthfully and spoke it boldly. He was that rare soul who told it as it was, with love, with integrity, and with care. He gave his heart to those he loved, fiercely and without reservation. His loyalty was unwavering, his presence constant. He made you feel safe, seen, and supported. His authenticity was magnetic, and his kindness, unforgettable. He wasn’t just a person. He was a presence, one that changed you.

Our hearts are shattered by his departure, yet they overflow with gratitude for every precious moment we shared. Moshope, you gifted us with light, laughter, and love. You taught us how to live with passion and grace. You remain etched in our hearts, your memory living on in the spaces between our tears and our smiles.

Arigato, my dearest friend, we love you.

Rest peacefully, my brother, until we meet again in Heaven.

A Tapestry of Cherished Memories – Our Shared Journey
The memories we shared are the most priceless treasures we will ever hold. Road trips filled with laughter, flights, and cruises that carried us to breathtaking places, cozy nights at home, and shared meals seasoned with love. Christmas carols will forever evoke the image of you singing passionately, your voice full of devotion, heralding the remembrance of the birth of Jesus. We recall the countless stories shared around our dining table, during long car rides, and on our peaceful fishing trips. The exhilaration of bike rides, the focused quiet of piecing jigsaw puzzles together, the joyous chaos of cooking Thanksgiving meals as a family, singing and dancing as we prepared the feast. We especially remember that beautiful evening during COVID-19 when you transformed our dining room into a charming restaurant just to give your mom a special treat. You looked so dashing as a waiter, and you made her so incredibly happy. We remember the joyous times spent together during our yearly living room concerts, video games, movie/pizza nights, teaching moments, basketball, soccer, bowling, karate, swimming, golf, Kumon, the quiet comfort of simply being at home; every memory a testament to the preciousness of the time we spent together. You poured your heart into everything, our family meals and our shared prayers.

We hold onto the warmth of your bear hugs, the tenderness of your kisses, the comforting strength of your embraces, and all the laughs and tears we shared throughout the years. Thousands of family photosand videos stand as testaments to our journey together, each one a precious snapshot of a moment in time. We remember your academic awards, your graduations, your volunteer work at YMCA, working with children at Church, career with Morgan Stanley, the thoughtful gifts you bought for us, and the meals you ordered for us, always ensuring we were cared for. We miss the times you stayed in the kitchen, cooking with so much delight and interest, just to share the tastiness of your culinary expertise with us.

Your stories, your dreams, and your aspirations, all shared so openly with us, were treasures. Most profoundly, we remember the love of God and trust in Jesus you engraved in your heart, wore on your wrist as bands of faith, and displayed through the scriptures pasted on your room walls. Your highlighted Bible pages and your deeply insightful notes as you dug deeper into the mind and heart of God through His word; this brought immense joy to us. The prayers you scribbled in your notes for your brother, and us, reveal the loving heart that defines you so completely. Your love for God was unwavering, and you carried it as a torch, illuminating the world around you.

A Grandson’s Love – Priceless Commitment and Dedication
The way you loved your grandparents was unmatched. Every Sunday, they looked forward to your evening calls, a tradition that brought them immense joy. They cherished the jokes you shared and the insightful questions you asked, always eager to learn more and to understand their world. Your genuine interest in their wellbeing, your evidenced love for them, and the gentle way you took care of them when they visited, ensuring they felt cherished, honored, and appreciated. Your love for them never wavered, and they basked in the joy of your commitment to their care and attention to their value. And then, that Sunday, March 2, the call stopped, and they were glued to their phones, waiting, their hearts heavy with a silence they could not comprehend. Their love for you and your reciprocal love for them remain a beautiful, enduring memory.

A Sacred Bond – A Brother’s Unbridled & Unwavering Love
Your love for your brother was nothing short of divine. We saw it in every interaction, a love that was unimaginable in its depth, heartening in its sincerity. You would have given your life for him, and in every word, every gesture, every moment, you proved that love was boundless. No distance, no obstacle, no difficulty could stand in the way of your devotion. “am excited to come see you” – even against all odds, you ensured that your love prevailed, not held back by fear, not diminished by death. We watched in awe, grateful beyond measure for the purity and sincerity of your love.

A Son’s Eternal Gift
Our Darling Moshope, you gave us the most precious gift in the world, the sacred privilege of being called “Daddy” & “Mummy.” That was and remains our most cherished title, a badge of honor bestowed by you, our 1st son. Though your voice may now be silent, the symphony of your memories echo endlessly in the chambers of our minds and the depths of our hearts. It is an honor, Moshope, to love you, to have raised you, and to walk alongside you in life. Your memories thunder in our dreams, reverberating with love, and boundless gratitude. Thank you for choosing us. Thank you for loving us. Thank you, our darling Moshope, for sharing your radiant presence with us for 25 amazing years. Every moment was a gift, every breath you took, every smile you offered, every act of kindness you performed, a testament to the beautiful soul you were. You are forever etched in our souls. His Magnetic Presence Naturally Attracted Attention and Affection

Questions: “If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

Moshope’s Response: “Time Travel. I will choose time travel as my superpower as I can go into the past to change past actions/events in history as well as go into the future to see how things are and see when the formula for “immortality” is made and add that to my abilities so that I can time travel whenever I want and never pass away in order to make things better for the world. For example if in the year 3012 the issue of world hunger is solved, I could bring that solution to the year 2000 and wipe that problem from mankind…etc. Basically, I’d use time travel to solve World Peace”.

We need to work – Work is such an integral part of being human that the Bible recognizes it in the first chapter. When Adam and Eve, the first couple, were cast out of the Garden of Eden, the Lord said to them, “By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food”- (Genesis 3:19).

It feels like a curse sometimes to need to work, but like most things that God gives us to do, there is also a blessing. That blessing is that we need to work with others for our work to be productive and bear good fruit, whether in the forest, on the farm or at a Firm like Morgan Stanley.

We call these “work relationships” like they are different, somehow less than other types of relationships, but they are not. We may be doing work, but the relationship is personal.

Moshope made it personal.

He always prioritized people no matter how busy. He was curious, wanting to know what you did, why you did it, and why it was important. He was welcoming and warm, greeting visitors from other offices and other teams. He was enthusiastic in countless small ways, stopping to chat with colleagues about soccer, sharing details about a new jazz album that he found, running races on the weekends with many of us and actively participating in various team building events.

That is the mark that Moshope left on us, his way of being a person. That is the blessing and why we share your grief and offer our deepest condolences for your loss”- Paulino.

“Moshope, thank you for training me. You provided great instructions throughout and made sure I fully understood the process front and back. Furthermore, you have made me feel an integral part of the team from day one. I always enjoy our conversations throughout the day”. – Laurence.

A Friendship Etched in Flavor,
Art, and Quiet Impact:
Remembering Moshope

“Moshope and I met the summer we both started working at Morgan Stanley. We initially struck up conversation over soccer, and despite supporting rival teams, we quickly became close friends. He always said he knew we would be great friends because he thought we were alike. A bit introverted, maybe a little too serious at times, but driven to reach our own goals for the future.

I always felt he was selling himself short with that comparison. He had a sense of adventure unlike anyone I knew. He travelled by himself to other countries just to experience a different culture, people, and cuisine he could take inspiration from. He would always explain new hobbies or interest with such enthusiasm. I tried to emulate these things just by being around him.

Moshope’s love for the culinary arts was something we talked about a lot.  We exchanged recipes and shared dishes we made all the time. One of the things we enjoyed doing the most was trying new restaurants. We made it a rule that we would avoid going to the same place twice to force us to explore new places. Some of my fondest memories of living in Baltimore are from those meals. One thing we spoke about often over these dinners were our plans for the future. I am heartbroken we won’t get to see the plans he had for himself.

When I remember Moshope the first thing that comes to mind is his thoughtfulness. When trying new food he would journal his thoughts and wonder how the chefs came up with the dish and the technique they used to make it. He was always asking for recommendations for books, music, and shows to expand his horizons. He would always let me know what he thought about any sort of recommendation, the good and the bad. If it was something he was interested in, he came back with questions to spark a discussion. I think his love of art really encapsulated this. The Moshope I’ll remember loved to paint. He was excited to talk about his paintings and share his works in progress.

It became a bit of a running joke but no matter where we went we always ran into someone who knew Moshope. Watching a soccer game on a Saturday morning and meeting an old coach from high school, eating out at a new restaurant after work and seeing a childhood friend, or even visiting an art museum and bumping into someone he had met the night prior while out with friends. I always felt this showed the impact he had on others. People were drawn to him so naturally and seeing that repeatedly only solidified that belief.

I’m not sure if any of this will provide any comfort but I want you to know he had a large impact on me despite only knowing him for the last few years. Your son was a wonderful person and I know I won’t have another friend like him”.

– Mike.

“Moshope’s culinary adventures were legendary! Post his introduction to Ekiben and Cava, his  love for them was contagious. He became their unofficial (an unpaid) ambassador, spreading the flavor to everyone he cared about. From a work perspective, Moshope was a standout collaborator, bridging gaps between stakeholders and senior management through his monthly presentations. His confidence inspired not only his colleagues but also new team members, leaving a lasting impact on our team’s dynamics and success”.

– Bhavesh.

“Thank you Moshope, for being a peer mentor and amazing colleague. Joining the firm, Moshope carried me under his wing not only to train me on processes but also to guide me into the corporate world right away. Moshope constantly gives great advice, knowledge and good feedback when needed for my success. Thank you for being a great person”

– Najee.

On the Wings of Angels
We Trust God's Timing
Even When We Don't Understand His Plan

He was a young man filled with godliness, wearing the Word of God on his wrist like a sacred badge. His heart pounded with love and care for the less privileged, always serving with humility and compassion. His room, office, and soul were inscribed with scriptures, each wall a testament to his devotion. He prayed constantly for his family, friends, and even strangers, carrying others in love and intercession. A humble servant of Christ, he cared for children, fed the poor, and volunteered joyfully. A worshiper at heart, his voice rose in songs of praise, and even now, the melodies he sang still echo, bold, beautiful, and eternal.
